Quelle plante choisir pour une jardinière suspendue intérieure?

Which plant to choose for an indoor hanging planter?

Hanging planters are a great solution for filling empty spaces. Practical and aesthetic, they add a warm touch to bare ceilings or walls.

Which plants to choose?

When plants are placed high up or in hard-to-reach places, it is easy to neglect them. It is therefore crucial to choose varieties that require little watering, while taking into account the orientation of the window for their exposure to light.

Some of the best options include: spider plants, pothos, scindapsus, tradescantia, string of pearls, string of hearts, and hoya, all of which are easy-care plants.

The Spider Plant

The spider plant is one of the most popular plants because of its ease of care. It requires very little care and is very tolerant when it comes to watering. This makes it ideal for a hanging planter. In addition, its beautiful foliage in the form of long, drooping ribbons will be highlighted in a hanging basket.

The spider plant will thrive in bright light, without direct sunlight, otherwise its leaves will turn brown. It requires regular, but light watering when the soil is dry on the surface.

Pothos

Pothos is one of my favorite plants because there are so many varieties ( golden , neon , manjula , pearl and jade , etc.) and it is easy to maintain, as well as growing very quickly. It is the most effective plant for oxygenating a room! However, be careful, it is toxic to animals and can cause skin reactions, another good reason to hang it out of reach of animals and young children. Pothos is often confused with scindapsus, whose leaves are generally larger and have a decorative appearance.

Pothos tolerates bright light without direct sun or partial shade. It requires regular, but light watering when the soil is dry on the surface. In this image: pothos golden

The scindapsus

Scindapsus is a simple plant to maintain as long as you respect its watering needs. As it is sensitive to rotting, it is better to forget about it a little and water it only when its soil is very dry. Despite its depolluting action, scindapsus, like pothos, is also very toxic. It is therefore advisable to place it high up out of the reach of children and animals.

Tradescantias

This perennial plant with colorful foliage and long, creeping stems is ideal for hanging. There are about 75 species in a multitude of shades: pink, mauve, red, green, white and yellow. Although it is also nicknamed "misery", this plant is one of the easy-care species. It adapts to a wide variety of lighting.

Although it is easy-going, too dark an exposure will give it a less vivid foliage color. It prefers bright light, but without direct sunlight.

Pearl necklaces

Its name comes from its long, drooping stems covered with green ball-shaped leaves. This magnificent plant is ideal in a hanging planter since its delicate leaves are very fragile and come off easily. It should therefore be hung high up in a non-traffic area. This plant does not like the sun's rays behind a window, as they burn its foliage. A south- or west-facing window is perfect for it. Senecio thrives in a small pot, as well as in cactus soil. Its roots do not like excess water. Make sure the pot is well pierced at the bottom and water lightly and only when the soil is completely dry.

Like most succulents, the string of pearls requires very little water. Water sparingly and only when the soil is very dry.

Heart chains

Its heart-shaped leaves in silver, green and pink have earned it this pretty name. They always grow two by two along a long stem. It does not like watering too frequently, which is why it can easily be placed high up, in a hanging planter. In terms of exposure, it is a plant that thrives in full light, which does not fear the sun's rays during the day, even in the middle of summer. It will therefore thrive in front of a sunny window. When placed in a place in full light, this plant grows in profusion. It must then be watered a little more often.

Philodendrons

Climbing philodendron is one of the most commonly grown hanging baskets. Its heart-shaped green leaves can take on several shades depending on the variety. Although it can tolerate low light, its foliage will be more vibrant under light from a sunny window without direct exposure. Philodendrons tolerate harsh growing conditions and some neglect, so it is a perfect candidate for hanging baskets. Be sure to water when the soil is dry on the surface. Philodendrons adapt easily to their environment. It is an excellent plant for beginners. In this photo: philodendron brazil.
